The game’s release date makes it impossible for it to sweep all the major “Game of the Year” awards in the same calendar year, as recent standout titles have done.

Will Not Be Eligible for the 2026 Golden Joysticks Awards

For a title to win all five major Game of the Year (GOTY) awards in the same year, it must take top honors at The Game Awards, the DICE Awards, the GDC Awards, the BAFTA Games Awards, and the Golden Joysticks. In the past, Baldur’s Gate 3 and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 managed to achieve this major feat.

However, Rockstar’s new blockbuster title is forced to break this streak before the competition even begins due to scheduling conflicts:
