Could GTA 6 be released for smartphones in the future?
A former Rockstar developer stated that it might theoretically be possible for GTA 6 to run on smartphones in the future.

A former employee has made some intriguing remarks about Rockstar Games’ highly anticipated game, GTA 6. Jérémy Hartvick, who worked as an open-world designer from 2017 to 2020, suggested that the game might be available on smartphones in the future. While it is known that the game, set to launch on November 19, will initially support only the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles, it remains unclear whether it will come to mobile devices.
Mobile Platforms and Technical Possibilities
Speaking on the Kiwi Talkz program, the former developer stated that running GTA 6 on smartphones is not theoretically impossible. Hartvick did not provide a clear method regarding whether this would be achieved through local optimization or via cloud-based systems. He also specifically emphasized that Rockstar has not officially announced any work in this direction or revealed a mobile version.
The Possibility of a Nintendo Switch 2 and Hardware Concerns
In the same interview, Jérémy Hartvick also addressed claims regarding the Nintendo Switch 2, adopting a more skeptical stance toward this platform. Noting that the majority of players would likely purchase a PS5 or a similarly powerful console to experience the game, the former employee suggested that making significant sacrifices for lower-end hardware might not be worth the effort for the company. Concerns were raised that the quality of the experience could suffer in potential adaptations for weaker devices due to open-world simulations and the heavy system load placed on the processor.
Analysis
A former developer’s assessment highlights the potential of today’s flagship smartphones to handle large-scale productions. However, the fact that Rockstar Games has not announced support for any platform other than PlayStation and Xbox consoles indicates that such scenarios remain purely theoretical for now.
